Prior to joining Canada ICI, Mackenzie built a wealth of experience in CRE Finance, building Lorne Capital from the ground up and exiting via a sale to Canada ICI. Throughout his career, Mackenzie has held senior and leadership positions at Colliers International, REAP Capital, and Finneo. Mackenzie has led commercial real estate finance and structured debt teams across Canada and the U.S. with a proven track record of closing nearly $3 billion in debt transactions and advising on over $6.5 billion.
Mackenzie has a well-known reputation in the CRE industry for his expertise in handling large, complex, and atypical transactions that require specific expertise in complex capital stack structuring, sensitive situations, and creative financing solutions. Mackenzie’s expertise has been relied upon by some of the largest property owners, developers, asset managers, and builders in the industry to provide advice, guidance, strategy, certainty of execution, and proper risk mitigation/management for some of the largest and most complex projects in Canada.
Mackenzie has worked across all asset and loan types over the course of his career; including, multi-family (self-liquidating and rentals, both CMHC and conventional, student housing, etc.), hospitality, retail, office, industrial, land (zoned, un-zoned, brownfield, etc.), gas stations, academic facilities, special-use, etc. and has developed a reputation across the lending and borrowing community for his unparalleled expertise in construction financing.
During his career, Mackenzie has mentored, trained, and led industry professionals in major markets across Canada and the U.S., helping them navigate the complexities of the industry with confidence and competence.
